Full turkey dinners with all the trimmings were hand delivered to 30 Norristown families in need by the Norristown Fire Department today; and to one special boy, 5 years old Brandon who is fighting brain cancer. We were so happy to pay him a visit and to see the smile on his face. We also visited the Weaver Family of Norristown. Mr. Weaver was a security guard at Graterford Prison when this past September he unexpectedly lost his life at work.
Fire Chief Tom O’Donnell coordinated this event for the 2nd straight year, who recognized the opportunity to help the community. “The Fire Department wanted the chance to give back to the community we serve. Seeing the smiles it brings to the families, it means everything to us.” Said Fire Chief O’Donnell.
The meals included all the makings of a Thanksgiving feast like a fresh turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, yams, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Along with the food, a few families received a $10 gift certificate to use at Savers in East Norriton.
Local businesses helped make this event a success, Aman’s Bistro donated the turkeys and Save-A-Lot donated the dry food. Savers and Impact Thrift provided the wicker baskets and Aaron’s Furniture Rental provided the wrapping paper.
