Fire Inspections

The Norristown Fire Department’s Fire Safety Inspection Program is designed to promote a proactive approach to fire safety through prevention. Our career firefighters are also certified fire inspectors, and conduct fire safety inspection of your property with the goal of identifying existing hazards to life and property and to provide explanations on how to mitigate the hazard(s) and maintain compliance with the International Fire Code.

Fire inspectors also gather business’s emergency contact information along with key information in case of an emergency in your business.

K9 Arson

“KINDLE” is a female yellow Labrador retriever that is the first certified accelerant detection dog in Montgomery County. Fire Chief Thomas O’Donnell and Kindle earned their certification in obedience and accelerant detection from the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers, a credential that requires recertification every two years. Chief O’Donnell and Kindle are available to anyone who needs K9 assistance, whether it be firefighters or law enforcement. Kindle is another tool in the toolbox for arson and fire investigators within Norristown and Montgomery County.

"WAGNER" is a male yellow Labrador retriever and will be taking over for the retiring Kindle.

Wagner has gone through K9 Handler training in March 2024 and graduated in November 2024 from K9 Tracking and Evidence Detection. In May of 2025 Wagner will continue his training in K9 Ignitable Liquids Detection.

Firefighter David Soulen is Wagner's handler.
